Shmulie Schwartz Unlocking the Torah Text by Rabbi Golden Parsha Vayikra 30-33

In Parsha Vayikra it says when a leader sins, not if a leader sins.  The question is, why does the Torah say when and not if?  I think this is a good question since it is saying that the leaders will sin and not might sin.  Many Rabbi’s such as the Ibn Ezra and the Chizkuni do not take it to mean when, they take it to mean if the leader sins.  Rashi sees it saying fortunate are the people if they have a leader and the leader admits to sinning.  Another view is that power corrupts people.  With great power comes great responsibility, this means that the leaders will have so much power they have to be responsible.  If they are not then they will sin.  It says four people died because people die not from sins.  These are Binyamin, Amram, Yishai, and Kil’av.  When it says these people it says Binyamin son of Yaakov, Amram father of Moshe, Yishai father and Kil’av son of David.  It says people that they are related to not just them.  This goes to show that the who died not from sin had a relative that was a leader and we know that the leader sinned.  This shows that the leaders will sin, and that is why it says when they sin and not if they sin.  I think this last answer is the best answer.  this is the answer that most people can relate to the most.  This is giving a answer it brings a proof that is brought from logic and people can understand it.  I think that this is a very good shuir.  It has a good question, and three good answers and one of them is a very good answer that people can relate to.  I feel this shuir can be said to all people because this shows that even people like Moshe, Yaakov, and David, were such great people, yet they had so much power that they sinned.  this can show anyone that if you have power over someone be very careful to not sin because it is very easy to.  I would share this shuir at my Shabbat table.
